They appear stationary.

Perhaps quick fade outs could be explained as aerial flares of some sort.

We saw a bright linear string of very bright lights the evening of Nov 15th to the south of Hwy 10 near Waupaca. Lights just appeared briefly and then went out, no fading. They appeared stable in the sky, not moving. Don't know what it was.

My husband and I were driving west on Hwy 23 between Fond du Lac and Rosendale approximately 7:30 PM or so on 11/17/11. We saw a bright orange light in the southwestern sky that was stationary, brighter than an airplane landing light. It disappeared (faded away) and showed up again maybe 10 seconds later in the western sky. It disappeared and some seconds later two bright orange lights appeared in the NW sky right next to each other, one slightly lower than the other. They shined for maybe 10 seconds and just faded out. We pulled over and stopped to watch the sky for more lights, but saw none.

It should be noted that none of the lights we saw were moving as they were shining. They appeared stationary, just reappearing in the night sky in different spots from SW to NW.
